Our vision

Every clinician an innovator, making healing new for every client, everywhere.

Innovare is Latin for "to make new." We chose the name on purpose: making new is at the heart of everything we teach.

Our mission

Renewing the way clinicians think

Innovare offers living, experiential education that renews the way clinicians think, moving them from following methods to creating them, rooted in sound philosophy, ethics, and cultural humility.

Through living, experiential trainings that engage the whole person first, we equip clinicians to innovate in the moment with confidence, competence, and a clear rationale, for any client and in any setting.

Many clinicians leave graduate school with solid skills and a sound ethical foundation, then spend years in continuing education that asks them to sit and listen. We built Innovare for clinicians who want something more alive: whole-person, multidimensional learning that changes how they think, not just what they know.

Expressive arts is one of our tools, alongside play, sandtray, movement, ecotherapy, and more. No single method is the point. The point is flexibility: meeting the person in front of you with an approach you can create in the moment and explain with confidence.

Our five pillars

Who we are is how we teach

Our pillars describe who we are, and they are also the path every training follows, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave renewed. Each one shapes how we design trainings and how we ask you to evaluate them.

  1. 01

    Engaging

    Person first

Every activity meets you as a person before asking you to use it with a client. Self-of-the-counselor work comes first.

  2. 02

    Experiencing

    Live it, don't watch it

You learn by doing, contributing, and co-creating. Learning is embodied and multidimensional, never passive.

  3. 03

    Exploring

    Stay curious

Flexibility and curiosity open possibilities across any population, setting, or topic.

  4. 04

    Creating

    Make your own

You leave able to innovate in the moment with confidence, competence, and a clear philosophical rationale.

  5. 05

    Renewing

    Make new

You grow personally and professionally, making new both yourself and your work. That is what innovare means.

Dr. Crystal Brashear

Counselor educator · EMDR Certified · Certified Humanistic Sandtray Therapist

Dr. Crystal Brashear is a counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and clinician who trusts in the creative power each person carries to grow in awareness and self-compassion. Dr. Nancy Thomas is a counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and trauma clinician who believes creativity breaks down barriers to healing and professional growth. She is Program Director and Associate Professor of the CACREP-accredited Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Colorado Christian University and a licensed professional counselor and clinical supervisor.

As an Indian American, Dr. Thomas is passionate about the mental health needs of communities where stigma keeps people from seeking help. Her research gives voice to those often overlooked, including how South Asian communities understand trauma, how BIPOC adults experience telehealth, and what shapes the well-being of emerging adults. In her clinical work, she walks alongside people living with the long-term effects of trauma, using EMDR and creative interventions.

She has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed articles and presented at more than 30 state, national, and international conferences, including the Texas Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the European Branch of the American Counseling Association, as well as at the Dallas FBI office. Who we train

Clinicians at every stage, wherever they practice

Licensed professional counselors (LPC, LMHC, LCPC, and similar titles), marriage and family therapists, substance use counselors, school counselors, and counselors in training. Our trainings assume a basic counseling skill set and a working knowledge of ethics and theory, then build from there.

We teach live online so clinicians can join from anywhere, and we bring trainings in person to agencies, schools, and conferences.

What every training includes

  • Clear ethical boundaries and attention to scope of practice
  • A trauma-informed design, with choice and opt-out built in
  • Cultural humility across participants and the clients they serve
  • More than one method, each with a clear philosophical why
  • Room to stretch, try, and learn from what doesn't work
